365 Days to a Healthier Happier Me

So this is it, the beginning of a new ME. Really, I am writing for myself. My favorite quote from the movie Luther, "Sometimes we teach best what we need to learn most." That is the place I am writing from. I am teaching what I need to learn most.

We take our health for granted as young people - but of course I'm still young :) We do take our health for granted and put ourselves through all kinds of rigorous torture to look or be a certain way. We challenge our body to grueling tests of fitness, and beat ourselves up if we don't comply with our own expectations. Or we allow ourselves to become couch potatoes and act like we don't care when we are really just covering up our emotional issues.

Wherever you are in this journey, either over doing it or under doing it, there are some basic practices to become a HEALTHIER and HAPPIER you. Being a superman jock does not mean you are healthy. Being your average overweight TV watcher does not mean you are happy. There is always room for health and happiness in our lives. The bonus is that the people you associate with might actually enjoy your company a little more. Are you up for a new challenge? This is really based on the KISS principle - it's that easy. Keep it simple silly:)

This book is broken down into weeks which are then broken down into days. Each week will have a specific focus that you want to become familiar with before you begin the week. Choose a day of the week that is your first day of the week. Say you want to start your day on Monday. So, read the section about the week prior to going to bed before the beginning of your week, or in this example on Sunday night. That reading will get you ready for your practice for the week, what you will be focusing on. Each Day One will start with a simple practice for you to incorporate at the beginning of each day. Do this same practice everyday until you can do it without reading the book while you are doing it. You should have it complete by Day Seven, which is the beginning of the next week. Then you get a new practice to learn for the new week.

For best results, get a journal. You will want to write down answers to your many questions in a place that works for you. This will do 4 things: 1) you will be able to remember the answers to your questions, 2) you will be able to watch a transformation in yourself over time because you get to go back and see where you were day 1, and 3) when you write there is a connection in your brain to the writing that releases a concern, you will no longer be obsessed with that thing after it is written down. It's like completing something and opening up your brain to have more room for other more important things. And then 4) what you write that is a concern will get resolved!! without you having to put in an enormous effort. It's almost like magic! Now I could give you all the research behind what I am saying, but I will leave that for the Appendix and further reading if you so choose to delve into the science behind writing.

Oh, and for you computer generation people, if keeping an electronic journal works for you, do it! Just get your thoughts out of your head and in another location. We need room in your brain to grow!!
